Saint Ann — Patroness of our Hospital
The early part of the 20th century witnessed great suffering among mothers and children. Moved by their plight, Fr. Wilhelm Meyer established the Society of the Daughters of St. Ann — named after St. Ann, the Mother of Mary, Mother of Jesus.
Under the patronage of St. Ann, these dedicated sisters came to Vijayawada to serve the sick, the poor, and the suffering — embodying the words of Christ: "In so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me."
What began as a small dispensary in Labbipet in 1940 has grown into one of Andhra Pradesh's most trusted multi-specialty hospitals — a living legacy of 80+ years of selfless service.
Fr. Wilhelm Meyer
Founder
Father Wilhelm Meyer, inspired by the suffering of mothers and children in early 20th century Switzerland, founded the religious Society of Sisters of St. Ann. His guiding spirit lives on in every act of care delivered at St. Ann's Hospital.
"Cling like a creeper to Jesus, the Rock."
Mother Elizabeth Affentranger was the Foundress and Pioneer of the Society of the Daughters of St. Ann in India. She brought the congregation to the Indian subcontinent and established the foundations of St. Ann's mission in Vijayawada.
Her courage, vision, and deep faith inspired generations of sisters who followed her, and her spirit continues to guide St. Ann's Hospital's ministry of healing and service.
